For the best part of 100 years only a single estate graced this superb region, Vega Sicilia one of the very best wine estates in the world. It showed what this area was capable of and over the last 30 years many more estates have been built up and created a real sense of excitement. The red wines from here have a much more fruit driven style than Rioja, although they are made from a strain of Tempranillo called Tinto Fino.
