This
most famous region of Andalucia is the last place producing
the medieval wine style of 'Sack', still the currency used
to pay the Poet Laureate! The most celebrated wine region
of them all in the nineteenth century, Sherry fell into
a long decline from which the sheer quality and originality
of the wines has now started the ride to a renaissance.
Forget the old ladies Christmas tipple, Sherry is one of
the great wines of the world.
To celebrate
this we offer some Sherries from one the finest producers
- Bodegas Delgado Zuleta are the oldest
winery in the coastal town of Sanlúcar de Barrameda.
They date from 1719 and are amongst the best producers
of the town's speciality, the dry or Fino Sherry called
Manzanilla. The proximity to the sea is said to add a
salty tang to these wines - perfect with that Andalucian
invention - tapas. The very best Manzanillas are aged
to add richness and complexity and are known as Manzanilla
Pasada - Bodegas Delgado Zuleta produce one of the greatest
of all - La Goya.
